In this live recording of the popular podcast The Psychology Podcast, psychologist Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman has a discussion with Jonathan Haidt, Greg Lukianoff, and Rikki Schlott about why so much in America seems to be so messed up: Things like Gen Z, universities, social media, American democracy, and our sense of humor, grace, and decency. How can we lighten up, toughen up, and get less stupid? 

• Scott Barry Kaufman, Ph.D

is a cognitive scientist and humanistic psychologist exploring the depths of human potential. He is a professor at Columbia University and director of the Center for Human Potential. Dr. Kaufman has authored 10 books and is host of The Psychology Podcast. In 2015, he was named one of “50 groundbreaking scientists who are changing the way we see the world” by Business Insider. 



• Jonathan Haidt  

• 

is a social psychologist at New York University’s Stern School of Business. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1992. Haidt’s research examines the intuitive foundations of morality, and how morality varies across cultural and political divisions. Haidt is the author of The Happiness Hypothesis (2006) and of The New York Times bestsellers The Righteous Mind (2012) and The Coddling of the American Mind (2018, with Greg Lukianoff). 

• Rikki Schlott 

• 

is a New York City based journalist and political commentator who recently attended New York University. In addition to being a research fellow at FIRE, she is a podcast host, a columnist at the New York Post, a researcher for the Megyn Kelly Show, and a regular contributor to a variety of publications and television networks. Her commentary focuses on free speech, campus culture, civil liberties, and youth issues from a Generation Z perspective.

• Greg Lukianoff

is the president and CEO of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, the Executive Producer of the 2016 documentary. Can We Take a Joke?, and the co-author of the 2018 book Coddling of the American mind, with Jonathan Haidt, and the forthcoming Canceling of the American line with Rikki Schlott.
